Thoughts for the day – Are you trying to hurry up staying alive?
While watching a TV programme last week about some very enlightening older people which was fascinating to watch and hear their philosophies about life and death. There was one phrase that really got me thinking and I quote:
“If you can adapt to your surroundings, then you will be ok.. you will get through life in a reasonable fashion.”
Whilst I have an understanding of what this man meant, from my own perspective of course, I couldn’t help questioning this and this is what I came up with:
Why would anyone want to just “get by”?
Why would anyone want to just “get through life”?
This made me feel that life can be very cheap and just something we have to get through to get to the other end – maybe as quickly as possible – to hurry up staying alive, so to speak. To some that are in that space, this is probably just how “life” feels (I have been there myself). Through certain life events that I have experienced, I have been to the feeling of “let’s just get this thing called life over and done with”. However, I have come through this and the exact opposite seems to be true for me now.
Life brings with it a richness, a mystery, a seeking and exploration of all that life has to offer. Yes there is a lot of negative things going on in the world, which is difficult to ignore if you have compassion in your heart and a willingness to improve things for others, but there is also a lot of beauty and love and caring and sharing and life need not be a case of “just getting through it”, if we can just open ourselves to our potential and the potential of others around us and, like sunflowers, move round with the sun, together in unity and harmony.
Seek out the help… no-one is going to do it for us and it’s nothing to be ashamed of if we need it – we have no problems asking for other things to meet our needs.
Just silently ask for that teacher to come along, or be shown a sign, or even just a friendly face that says “you are ok”.
Some more quotes from the programme – do they resonate with you?
“In living more slowly, especially if you live alone, you will see beauty, you will recognise a loveliness in so many things that you never had time for while you were busy earning a living.”
“Don’t give up when you think you only have a few years to live. Go at it steam ahead, don’t lie down before you have to…”
LIFE CAN BE BEAUTIFUL… DON’T MISS IT!!
